The Mid Wessex Singers’ Armistice Concert on Saturday 10 November 2018 was a moving experience for all involved. We were made welcome by the vicar and PCC at St Andrew’s Church in Curry Rivel and attracted a large audience including members of local branches of the British Legion. Marking the centenary of the end of World War 1, the programme of music put together by Musical Director, Graham Coatman, reflected both the tragedy and loss of life in war and nostalgia for past times, whilst acknowledging the continuing need to strive for peace. Accompanied by organ, piano or string quartet, the choir performed a range of music from the lively ‘In Exitu Israel’ by Vivaldi, quieter and reflective pieces, such as Parry’s ‘Crossing the Bar’ through to a medley of popular songs from World War 1.  The music was supplemented by poignant readings given by members of the British Legion.
